Where to stay in Pattaya

Six genuinely different Pattaya-region bases: the urban bay, northern Wong Amat, the Pratumnak hill, Jomtien, the Na Jomtien coast and an overnight stay on Ko Lan.

Plan your visit

Pattaya's central bay, Jomtien's longer beachfront and the resort coast toward Na Jomtien are different stays, not interchangeable beach addresses. Pratumnak adds hills and smaller coves, while Ko Lan adds a boat crossing. Choose where you want to spend ordinary evenings before using a temple, garden or island excursion to decide the hotel location.

Choose your base

Central Pattaya is the practical choice for urban restaurants, shopping and nightlife. Wong Amat and Naklua suit a northern resort-coast stay. Pratumnak favours hill views and smaller beach pockets; Jomtien provides a longer beach-road routine. Na Jomtien and Ban Amphur work for resort facilities and southern-coast outings, with greater reliance on road transport. Ko Lan is an island stay, not a mainland neighbourhood, and works best when the beaches themselves are the main plan.

Central Pattaya: an urban beach with restaurants and nightlife

Central Pattaya puts the beach promenade, shopping centres and restaurant streets into one urban bay setting. Beach Road and the parallel Second Road give the area its practical shape, with the southern Walking Street end delivering a much stronger nightlife emphasis than the northern end near the North Pattaya junction. Choose the part of the bay for the evening you want, not simply a listing that says 'Pattaya Beach'. The beachfront is a working urban leisure strip, with boats and activity, rather than an isolated resort cove.

RRC's airport coach information distinguishes Sukhumvit drop-offs and the Jomtien terminus; an arrival near Central Pattaya still needs a road connection to the beachfront hotel. Beach Road's one-way arrangement also means the outward and return street routes differ. Traffic, late venues and busy side streets are the compromise of this convenient base. Choose Wong Amat for a more resort-led coast, or Jomtien when the longer beach-road routine matters more than central nightlife.

Plan it well: The map marks Pattaya Beach. The credited 2009 shoreline photograph is not evidence of today's promenade layout.

Wong Amat and Naklua: a northern resort-coast base

Wong Amat is the northern bay around the Naklua side of Pattaya, with resort buildings beside the sand and a different road layout from central Beach Road. It suits travellers who expect to use the hotel and beach repeatedly, with meals in the resort or the Naklua-side streets rather than a nightly walk along the central promenade. The Sanctuary of Truth is farther north on the Naklua coast and makes a genuinely local outing, but it is not next door to every Wong Amat hotel.

The government's area description notes that Wong Amat lacks a continuous beach road, so access often comes through individual side streets. An airport coach arrival still needs a local road leg to the specific resort; a central Pattaya drop-off does not establish doorstep access here. The hotel-focused shoreline can also mean fewer convenient through-walks between properties. Choose Central Pattaya for a denser restaurant-and-nightlife circuit, or Jomtien for a long, more continuous beach-road layout.

Plan it well: The pin and photograph show Wong Amat Beach; the Sanctuary of Truth is a separate visit farther north in Naklua.

Pratumnak: hill views and smaller coastal pockets

Pratumnak sits between South Pattaya and Jomtien, with Phra Tamnak's viewpoint, Wat Khao Phrabat and a collection of smaller coastal pockets creating a distinct stay. The Kasetsin side around Cosy Beach offers a different setting from the inland roads nearer the hill; hotel restaurants on the Royal Cliff headland add another dining option within the wider area. Choose a property for the particular cove or hotel facilities you want to use. A room with a sea view high above the water is not the same thing as a level beach entrance.

The RRC airport coach's Jomtien-side arrival gives a useful southern transport reference, but the hotel still requires a local road transfer. There is no metro connection up this hill, and the viewpoints, slopes and side streets can make a short-looking map distance inconvenient on foot. This suits a self-contained coastal stay more than repeated shopping or nightlife trips. Choose Central Pattaya for those urban evenings, or Jomtien for a flatter, longer beachfront routine.

Plan it well: The image is a view from the hill over Pattaya Bay, photographed in 2007; it does not depict a hotel or private beach.

Jomtien: a long beach-road routine with local dining

Jomtien runs south of the Pratumnak hill and offers a much longer beachfront routine than the small coves around that headland. The beach road, shady stretches and restaurants let the day revolve around the coast without making central Pattaya's nightlife the default evening destination. Choose the actual stretch: the northern Thappraya end and a hotel farther south along the road create different journeys. The Floating Market is beside Sukhumvit inland, not a feature of the seafront outside every Jomtien hotel.

RRC operates the Suvarnabhumi-Jomtien airport coach, providing a useful arrival point on the northern Jomtien/Thappraya side. Continue by road to your particular hotel rather than assuming the coach runs the whole beach frontage. The length of the district is the main practical downside: being in Jomtien does not make all its restaurants or beach sections a short walk away. Choose Pratumnak for a smaller coastal pocket, or Central Pattaya when urban shopping and late evenings are the priorities.

Plan it well: The beach anchor is partway along Jomtien, not the airport-coach terminal. The existing image is genuinely 960 pixels wide.

Na Jomtien and Ban Amphur: a road-dependent resort coast

Na Jomtien extends the stay south beyond urban Jomtien, with resorts, marina-side accommodation and the Ban Amphur beach pocket in Sattahip district. It suits travellers who expect the hotel to supply much of the day's dining and leisure, then use a vehicle for selected outings. Ban Amphur has its own beachfront restaurants and shops; the wider coast includes seafood venues such as Rimpa Lapin. Nong Nooch and Khao Chi Chan are inland visits within the southern excursion region, not attractions you should assume are walkable from the resort beach.

Airport coaches to Jomtien or central Pattaya leave an onward road leg, while U-Tapao's published minibus service terminates at Big C South Pattaya rather than delivering passengers to every Na Jomtien resort. A prearranged transfer can therefore matter more here than proximity to a main-road stop. The trade-off is weaker spontaneous access to Pattaya's urban evenings. Choose Jomtien for a more continuous restaurant-and-beach road, or Wong Amat for resort time on the northern side.

Plan it well: This is a broader Na Chom Thian subdistrict anchor, not the Ban Amphur sand or a marina hotel entrance.

Ko Lan: an overnight island stay rather than a city base

Ko Lan makes sense when the island beaches are the holiday, not just one outing from a mainland hotel. Na Ban is the ferry-arrival village and practical starting point for island meals and local transfers; Tawaen offers a different beach-oriented focus. Ta Yai, shown in the photograph, is another beach on the island rather than the view outside every guesthouse. Choose accommodation around the part of Ko Lan you want to use after day visitors leave, and distinguish a village stay from a room beside a particular beach.

TAT identifies ferries from Pattaya's Bali Hai pier to Na Ban. Confirm the current sailing, pier and final island transport with the service you will use; old tourism fare and timetable figures are not reliable enough to turn into a fixed arrival promise. Airport travel adds both a mainland road transfer and the sea crossing. That extra dependency makes Ko Lan a poor base for daily mainland nightlife or an early-flight departure; Jomtien or Central Pattaya is more practical for those trips.

Plan it well: The pin identifies Ko Lan as a whole. The photo shows Ta Yai Beach, not Na Ban pier or Tawaen.

Arrival, local transfers and island crossings

Match the airport coach or minibus endpoint to the hotel area. No station name removes the last road leg, and an island stay adds a separate boat connection.

Suvarnabhumi to Jomtien

RRC lists airport boarding on Level 1 at Gate 8. Its current page notes a special late departure that goes to North Pattaya rather than Jomtien, so check the booked service's actual terminus.

Coach drop-offs and last connections

RRC's FAQ identifies additional Sukhumvit drop-offs before the Jomtien terminus. A highway drop-off is not the same as a beachfront or hill hotel entrance; arrange the onward road connection for your chosen area.

U-Tapao arrivals

The airport lists a Suvarnabhumi Burapha minibus connection to Big C South Pattaya outside Terminal 2. Check the current provider arrangements before relying on it for a resort farther south.

Road and pier geography

The official Pattaya map distinguishes the central bay, Pratumnak, Jomtien, northern Naklua and Bali Hai pier. Shared local vehicles need a route check; no fixed citywide fare or all-night service is assumed.

Current travel advice

The Thailand advice checked on 5 October 2026 does not place Pattaya in the regional avoid-travel areas. It does flag flooding around Bangkok and surrounding provinces that can affect airport road transfers; check the live notice before travelling.

Find a Pattaya hotel for your chosen coast

Compare Pattaya hotels by the part of the coast you will use repeatedly. Central beach access, a Wong Amat resort, a Pratumnak sea-view room and a Na Jomtien property are different transport commitments. For Ko Lan, weigh the island location against the additional boat crossing and your flight arrangements.
