Sana Sanatorium

Our renovated room at the Sana Hotel was new and comfortable, with a large balcony and clothes dryer. The buffet was tasty and home-style, and we always ate well. The staff were friendly and helpful. The grounds are spacious and full of beautiful plants and flowering shrubs. There are 2 or 3 ways to reach the sea, depending on where you're going, though every route involves crossing a paved road and then a railway. We tried different paths and enjoyed the nature along the way. We had a wonderful holiday and will definitely return. Elizaveta Purtova's earlier review was detailed and accurate, and everything was just as she described. We stayed from July 9th to the 19th.

I almost canceled after learning we would be staying in a former Soviet sanatorium and reading the negative reviews, but the Sana Hotel turned out to be a pleasant surprise. Our room was well maintained, with a luxurious double bed, refrigerator, air conditioning, TV, hairdryer, and balcony. Three buffet meals were served daily, and the food was delicious, no worse than a restaurant. For a small fee, the sanatorium also offers physical therapy, massages, and dental treatment. Massage therapist Lidiya deserves special thanks for helping with my osteochondrosis. The sea is a straight 10-15 minute walk away. The beach has free umbrellas and loungers, while nearby paid beaches charge 200-600 rubles per lounger. We stayed from September 15th to 25th through the Fortuna system, and I would happily choose Sana Hotel again.

Sana is a good fit if you want a quiet holiday and friendly people rather than luxury. The former sanatorium stands away from the noisy waterfront cafes. It is a beautiful monumental building from 1984, though not fully restored yet. The new owner is renovating it, and guests are placed only in renovated rooms with air conditioning, refrigerators, TVs, and comfortable new furniture. Every room has a large balcony overlooking the city and sea. A shopping center is across the street, and a minibus stop is nearby. The sea takes about 10 minutes at an easy pace. Sana bracelets provide free loungers and umbrellas at the beach by the Grand Hotel Abkhazia, and guests may also use the pool at the Abkhazia Hotel. The staff are exceptionally warm and responsive, especially the maids, who are always ready to help. The food is the highlight. Marina, the manager, somehow makes sure everyone is looked after, and the meals are delicious and heartfelt. You won't get champagne, nonstop room cleaning, or a beach directly outside, but you will get genuine hospitality and comfortable conditions for a relaxing trip. If you'd rather enjoy the sea than sit in a luxury room, this place makes sense.

We arrived in the evening of September 28, 2025. Although we were checked in, the rooms were mixed up, and one key opened every room on the floor. There was no blanket. When I asked, they said it would come tomorrow, but it never did. Three days later the water was shut off. The sanatorium was already in terrible condition, and having no water made it worse. On the third day we asked to move, but they only made promises until I started making a fuss. I have never seen such disgusting treatment of people. The renovation clearly applies only to the rooms. The dining room was filthy. There is one kettle on the first floor for 20 rooms. The beach takes 20-25 minutes on foot. We left today, and other guests traveling with us said the water still hadn't returned.
