Villa de Maria Boutique-hotel

The hotel is right beside a busy road, and that’s the main drawback. Traffic noise comes through even with the windows shut and the air conditioning running, so earplugs are worth bringing. Apart from that, this newly opened place was quite a discovery. My Russian-based tour operator found it, and even my Abkhazia guide hadn’t heard of it. She had worked in hotels before and said its style was among the best in Abkhazia, together with the Garuda in Sukhumi. The building is so new that you can still smell the cement, and some sections were still under construction. The furnishings and fixtures have a boutique feel, the standard is high, and everything was very clean. The rooms are small but thoughtfully equipped. Wi-Fi was extremely fast, the air conditioning worked well, and the hot water was reliable. There was also a hair dryer. Our terrace had a drying rack, and there was a shared ironing board in the corridor. No meals were being served, even though there appeared to be a dining room, perhaps that will change later. For now, Abaata Restaurant is only a few steps away and offers breakfast and other meals. I would suggest putting no-smoking signs in the rooms, since the guests next door smoked heavily, which was awful for non-smokers who later have to use the room.
