Abaash Afon Hotel

The suite offer in April was a great find. It was a huge two-room space with a bedroom and living room, and every detail seemed carefully considered. Service was pleasant and the food was excellent. The hotel is surrounded by historical places, including the New Athos Cave and the Grotto of Simon the Zealot. A park with a lake and swans is close enough to walk to, and the sea and its beautiful scenery are there too. We’ll definitely return.

The room itself was large, and the bathroom was comfortable. This was the fourth hotel I had stayed in during two months, and I had no complaints about the room. The hotel is also nice, but the construction right beside it was a serious problem. Workers started at 8am and continued until 7pm, and even though the hotel was half empty, we were placed on the second floor directly opposite the site. Judging by its size, the work may continue all summer, so keep that in mind when choosing a room. We were touring New Athos and weren’t in the room all day. I also found a napkin from a previous guest in the pocket of my white robe, which made me think it had not been washed and wonder whether the bed linen had been changed. Breakfast had plenty of food, but it was modest and very economical for the room’s standard and price. We stayed from May 31st to June 1st.

The location is decent, close to the monastery and waterfall, and the girls at reception were friendly. Unfortunately, that was about all we liked. We repeatedly asked staff to bring a blanket to the room, and dinner was so poor that eating at the outside cafe would have been better. There were hardly any choices, and the food was not tasty. I had read the evening review mentioning bedbugs and didn’t believe it, but in the morning I saw them myself and realized it was true. I’ll attach a photo. There was no water in the room either. I don’t understand how this hotel received such a high rating, and the price is far too high.

We stayed here in September 2024. The location is convenient, near a cave, waterfall, and monastery, with the sea around a 10-minute walk away. The food was home-cooked, clean, and tasty, although there wasn’t much choice. Our deluxe room was pleasant, but not worth the price. The housekeeping was a disaster. The daily cleaning that should have been provided simply didn’t happen, and rubbish remained in the room for 2-3 days. That was a major negative.
