Kalipso Hotel

We stayed in early September and found the hotel generally okay. The reception girls deserve special thanks, they answered our questions and were always helpful. Our third-floor room had air conditioning, TV, and a refrigerator. There was no kettle, but one was brought as soon as we asked. The shower drain was inconvenient and drained slowly. Linen and towels were changed every three days, and the room was cleaned on the same schedule. Since the dining room was closed, we had breakfast at the neighboring Samson Hotel, where the cafe served tasty food. There are plenty of other cafes in Sukhumi for lunch, so that wasn't difficult. The clean sea was nearby, with loungers available to borrow or space to use your own mattress. I didn't care for the shared courtyard, though. Hotel guests gathered there every night, and the noise was loud enough to keep us awake. The location was good, but I can only give the hotel a solid four stars.

I stayed with my grandson from August 3 to August 11, 2025, after spending a long time searching for somewhere suitable for a child. The website said there was a cafe where we could eat, but in practice we only had breakfast at the hotel. A nearby hotel had a cafe on its grounds with decent home-style food. Our room was large, with one bed, a mini-fridge, air conditioning, and a TV, though only channel 5 worked. The bathroom was like something from a fairy tale. Hot water was always available, and the power went out briefly a couple of times. The room was cleaned daily, while linen was changed every four days. The sheets were clean, and the towels were soft and snow-white. Special thanks to the service staff, all the girls were sociable, helpful, and willing to explain things. An iron and ironing board were on the first floor. For an extra charge, clothes could be washed in the machine using their powder, and there were lines and trailers in the yard for drying them. Beside the hotel were a fruit and vegetable stall and a minimarket stocked with everything from toothpaste to Martini Asti ☺️. Internet caused no problems. The sea was a five-minute walk away, with umbrellas and loungers available for an additional fee. The embankment begins nearby, and although it isn't very beautiful, it's suitable for an evening walk. Reception administrators can arrange transfers, excursions, and prepayments, and they can order a taxi if you don't have a local SIM card. The sea was warm and clean, but rotavirus is still a risk, so be careful. Otherwise, I recommend this hotel.

The sea view from our third-floor room was a real plus, although the sloping ceiling and roof were a major nuisance. The room itself was small, spotless, and had furniture in good shape, a TV, little fridge, air conditioning, and even a heater, which was useful in early March when it was 7 degrees outside. The bathroom and toilet were in the room, fully equipped and clean. There was no electric kettle, so we had to carry a cup downstairs to the receptionist whenever we wanted tea. The receptionists were polite, attentive, and always tried to help, which we really appreciated. There’s also a small grocery shop on site with fairly reasonable prices. We stayed three nights and came away with a favorable impression. I’d recommend the hotel.

I can’t really comment on the hotel itself, but the canteen was disappointing. The only dish we liked was the chanakhi. The chicken broth tasted as if some Doshirak-style seasoning had been added, and since we bought it for a child, we didn’t eat it. The salads were just chopped vegetables without oil, salt, or pepper. The syrniki were greasy, soft pancakes, and I couldn’t taste any cottage cheese. Lunch with soup, cabbage salad, a pot of chanakhi, syrniki, compote, and two teas cost 700 rubles. I don’t recommend it.
