Hotel El Xalet

The apartments looked attractive inside and out, which was the only redeeming part of the complex. The actual condition was dirty and neglected, and it felt especially surreal during the current Covid situation. We rented one apartment with a double bedroom and another with two single beds. One bed had not been made, there were no sheets or fitted sheets, and the mattress was covered in hair. The windows were dusty too. Overall, the apartment looked unhygienic, and I absolutely do not recommend it.

LAMENTABLE in capital letters. The Wi-Fi service they sell isn't real, so anyone planning to work should find somewhere else with a connection. When I complained at reception, they said they would tell the technician. Instead, he came to my apartment even though the router wasn't there, and they entered while I was in the shower. Unbelievable. The refrigerator leaked every day, leaving a puddle whenever I returned. The shower curtain was practically useless, and the bathroom became a pool each time I showered. I've never had this happen in an apartment before. If you're considering staying here, I highly recommend against it.

Horrible experience. The welcome was unpleasant, with no smile or effort to help us in French. The reception only opens at 4 pm, and when we left before 11 am, we had to return at 4 because they would not accept the keys earlier. They then refused to return our deposit, although this requirement was not written anywhere in the contract we signed on arrival. The owner was apparently "on vacation," according to the rude receptionist, so we couldn't resolve anything with him. He understood French only when it suited him, and supposedly didn't speak English either. For someone working at a tourist hotel, that lack of language ability is very poor. We called the police, who agreed with us and advised filing a complaint, which we will do. Foreign visitors, especially French citizens, should stay away. They also made us sign a paper containing all the instructions without allowing us to keep it. And after every shower, the basin was full of water.

The grounds are beautifully looked after, and the apartments are impressively spacious. Being right beside the ski resort is a major advantage. The one real drawback is the attic accommodation. The ceilings are so low that sleeping there can be uncomfortable because you keep bumping your head.
