We really enjoyed the lively neighbourhood. There are loads of restaurants and all kinds of businesses around, and it felt safe to walk even at night. The metro is about 5-8 minutes away on foot, and the gold souq takes around 5-10 minutes to reach. The hotel is budget level, so it’s very basic. That worked for us since we spent our days out in the city, but I wouldn’t choose it for a stay where you plan to spend much time at the hotel. The staff were nice, and the place was fairly clean and tidy. It was hard to sleep, though. You can hear everything in the corridor, with guests coming and going all night, at least until 3 PM. There’s also a loud phone in the corridor that rings now and then, including at night, and a nearby minaret can be heard early every morning. The stairways were cluttered with refrigerators, cleaning machines and other items on most floors. Things that can burn were stored at the bottom level, and the exit door was unlocked, so anyone could get into the stairwell. That’s a serious safety hazard. All in all, it’s an okay budget hotel.

Because of the war, there are no flights to Dubai. My airline refunded the full cost of the flights, since I couldn’t have known in advance that they would be cancelled. But the hotel gave me nothing back for my week-long reservation, which I’d paid for four months ahead. The system wouldn’t let me give zero stars, so I had to leave one. From Porvoo, Finland.

The breakfast needs more variety and should suit more people. It was the same every day, and really, who wants noodles for breakfast? Come on, make a change! The rest was good, and the hotel was a great deal for the price. The staff were excellent, especially the kind, polite and extremely helpful gentleman working the morning shift at reception.

The TV never worked during my 10 days there, even after I complained three times. I also checked out early because both the hotel management and Booking.com assured me I’d get a refund for the remaining six days. I wouldn’t have left early otherwise. Once I’d vacated the room, though, the hotel went back on that assurance and refused to pay. It feels like they persuaded me to leave so they could rebook the room and make money twice. Really unethical and unacceptable.
