Hotel JoAn

We spent eight days at Hotel JoAn over Easter 2025. The location was perfect, and the hotel was clean and affordable. The receptionist was lovely and always helped us with parking. Some things really need attention, though. The coffee was cold every time, and I couldn't understand why they turned the machine off after making it. My son's bed, in a room on another floor, was made just once. On our fourth night they changed our bedding but not his, so I had to take off the dirty sheets myself. He's a teenager, but he wasn't making a mess. They brought clean towels each day, yet his bathroom went uncleaned most of the stay while ours was cleaned. I couldn't understand that difference, especially since the woman was always very nice to us. I'd recommend the hotel if they fixed those few problems.

The room had a broken mirror and drying rack, awful water pressure, and only water that was either boiling hot or freezing cold. Nothing seemed to be maintained. We also tried to exchange our leftover lek at the hotel's currency desk, but the woman there, who was also the receptionist, tried to keep €1 even though the printed receipt showed what she owed us. We had to argue to get it back. The payment problems started when we arrived. We'd entered our card details online to secure the booking, but they demanded full payment on arrival and added a 5% fee for paying by card. It felt like a way for the owner to take more money. We paid 39,000 lek, around €400, leaving just €5, but couldn't settle that balance because reception was usually empty. The receptionist would be at the cafe across the street instead. We eventually found a woman at the desk and paid it. On checkout, they claimed we still owed €55, even though we'd already paid about €400. The woman insisted after we explained, then called the owner, who shouted at us over the phone. He was rude and told us to pay and leave a bad review afterward, saying he didn't care, had plenty of other businesses, and that €50 wouldn't change his life. We ended up paying €57.75 and got no apology. It was one of the worst hotel stays we've had. From the first day we felt treated badly and unfairly. The place feels like a rip-off, with dishonest, rude people and no hospitality or customer service. Avoid it.

Of the three hotels I booked, this was the best so far. Lovely room, great view and balcony. I really recommend staying here 🤍

The reception attendant was wonderful and helped us a lot, and the service was really nice. It's a very central, well-located hotel. The rooms were good too: we liked the double room, though the family room felt rather cramped. I'd recommend it.
