Tanushaj Beach Resort

We got there at 7 AM but had to wait until 12 PM for our room. We were allowed to use the beach or pool, but we were exhausted and just sat around. Even though we arrived first, we were the last to get a room. They said an earlier room might not be properly cleaned, but at noon ours was still dirty: the toilet had not been cleaned and there were makeup stains on the table. The cleaning lady was nice, though the room clearly had not been cleaned well. When I complained about the wait and the way check-in was handled, I was told I could leave if I didn't like it. That's no way to treat guests. Most of the staff were unfriendly, particularly if you didn't speak Albanian. Apart from one kind, helpful girl at checkout, the service felt rude, and with so few employees speaking English, communication was often frustrating or even hostile. The beach was dirty, the food was cold, and morning coffee cost extra if you wanted it, which surprised me at a hotel. The poor hospitality and cleanliness left a bad impression, and I wouldn't recommend staying here, especially if you don't speak Albanian.

I booked a room for my wife, our two young children, and me. We warned the hotel that traffic would make us a little late, but they canceled the room just 30 minutes past check-in. After arriving tired with the kids, we were told, “your room isn’t available anymore.” Tanushaj Beach Resort was the most unprofessional hotel I've dealt with. It showed no basic hospitality or care for guests and families. Save yourself the stress and book somewhere else.

The checkout was especially frustrating. I had to stand in line, and when I asked for my passport, the staff wouldn't return it until they'd checked our room. That felt unusually intrusive compared with my experience in other countries. There were also problems getting fresh towels, and they refused our request for a light blanket. Sunbeds right in front of the hotel were in short supply, so we had to walk farther to find them. The buffet food wasn't up to the standard I expected. On the positive side, the cleaning staff were excellent and attentive, and the bar employees worked hard and gave great service. Still, for the price we paid, I expected much better service and amenities. My stay was disappointing, and based on my experience I wouldn't recommend the hotel.

Evenings outside with music and my friends were a lovely part of our holiday. We had tasty meals at the restaurant, especially the local dishes, and the staff were kind and helpful. Our rooms were clean and nice, too. Tanushaj Resort in Shëngjin is right by the beach, so it was easy to swim or just relax by the sea whenever we felt like it. We had a fun, relaxing stay and I'd love to come back.
