Hotel Aghveran

The view from the restaurant and rooms is something else. Horses were grazing on the opposite slope, which delighted me as an equestrian. I also fell for the hotel's cuddly, playful pup. Thanks to the hotel team for such a great stay! We booked the two-level family suite, which was very spacious and had everything we needed. They even brought a complimentary bottle of sparkling wine and a fruit platter. I worried about the cold, since it reached -14 at night, but the aircon heated the room and kept it warm. The indoor pool was the best part for a winter trip. The water was hot, and I didn't want to get out. Breakfast and dinner were very nice, with a decent range of food, and staff kept everything stocked. We also tried the sauna and billiards. Billiards wasn't charged, a nice courtesy. The sauna was small, with a dry Finnish sauna and a cool bath, but having it privately was lovely. I was pleasantly surprised that they let you pour water on the hot stones, which is rarely allowed in European saunas. A few things could be better, though they didn't bother me. The room design feels dated, with red carpets and golden curtains. There were dark damp spots in the bathroom, and although there's a floor drain, it isn't at the lowest point, so water from the shower can be hard to keep off the floor. I couldn't figure out how to close the bathtub drain, though I wasn't planning to take a bath. Only one billiards cue had a sponge tip; the others were plastic and harder to play with. I'm trying to be a Karen here. None of these little issues mattered, and I'm sure the friendly, attentive, helpful staff would have tried to sort them out if I had mentioned them. I think the hotel is worth the cost and would happily return.
