Nido del Cóndor Hotel & Spa

The restaurant was a highlight, with great homemade food and excellent service from Bárbara and Pia. Reception was just as good, thanks to Sara, Natalie, and Maxi. The hotel has a lovely warm feel, all wood and stone, and our room was comfortable, with nice amenities, thick towels, and a great shower. Housekeeping was very accommodating too. We’d happily stay again and again.

We came in summer, though the place seems set up more for winter and ski season. There are fireplaces in the rooms, but it was too warm to use one. We loved the room’s hot tub, especially the view over the lake and mountains from it. The hotel sits right on the lake, with several good restaurants within walking distance. The town center is a short Uber ride away, and we enjoyed eating at the hotel restaurant for all our meals.

We paid $471 for Christmas dinner for five and got back only 40% of that amount. In the photo, we asked about Christmas Day, but nobody clarified that the dinner was on Christmas Eve. Our Christmas trip was memorable for all the wrong reasons. We’d paid for what we thought would be a dream location, too, but do the room photos look like rooms worth $600+ a night?

The spa was pleasant, and the heated pool was a nice extra, but avoid the massages. They weren’t worth it. Room 27 had a fantastic view, plenty of space, and a small kitchen with a stove and mini fridge. It snowed the night we arrived, which made the view even more breathtaking. The staff were helpful and breakfast was good. The room was clean overall, though there was hair in the bathtub. It took about 15-20 minutes by taxi to reach Bariloche city center, even in slow season. It’s advertised as four stars, but the service and attention to detail didn’t feel four-star.
