The location is good and the staff are friendly, but the rooms felt old, worn, and very basic, more like a youth hostel. Our first room faced a gloomy courtyard full of buildings and junk. Emily initially wanted to charge $100 a night to move us to a park view; we eventually changed to a room with a small view for an extra $35 a night. The large park-facing window still looked out at a construction site and bright orange bike parking stalls, nothing like the photos. There were only sheer white curtains, so morning light came straight in, and the room had just one dim overhead light. The bathroom had an antiquated jet tub and an old wall-mounted hair dryer. Breakfast was a very basic continental spread. The breakfast room had a college dorm feel, with a computer station and only a couple of tables. The website photos don’t represent the hotel well. Two guests in the room next door said they felt the same way about the photos and their stay. After checking out, we moved to NH Collection Crillon, which was far better for the same rate and felt like a real four-star hotel. I’d give Design cE two stars. Disappointing.

You can hear everything through the walls: people coughing, flushing toilets, and walking around their rooms. That made the stay especially disappointing. The rooms are tiny and need major renovations. The floors, mattress, and curtains were stained and scratched, and the bathroom looked old and worn out. Most rooms seem to face a wall at the back of the building, so the view is misleading. The Google photos show the most expensive room, not the standard rooms guests usually get. This doesn’t feel like a four-star hotel at all, maybe two stars at most. If you’re looking for luxury, stay elsewhere. For the same price there are plenty of better options. I wouldn’t come back or recommend it.

The location was very good, with lots of places within walking distance, and the room was clean and nice. It was good value, though the bathroom and a few small details felt dated. I was on the first floor and really enjoyed the city views. The downside was the noise: whenever someone used the bathroom or shower, it was really loud.

A small, very cool boutique hotel with an artistic feel. The decor is a little tired, but it was clean, and the front desk staff were welcoming and helpful. Many local attractions are an easy walk away. There’s a hop-on, hop-off tourist bus around the corner, which is handy for visiting favorite spots, many of them also within reasonable walking distance.
