After rain, water leaked through the ceiling, and there seemed to be black mold in a corner upstairs. The internet was mostly unusable, though they blamed the ISP. Inside, the place looks very nice, with a comfortable bed and a good-looking couch. At night, though, the neighborhood felt shady for foreigners.

I found Piedras Suites on AirBnB, and booking it turned out to be a great decision. The lofts in San Telmo, a nice part of Buenos Aires, are great and cost much less than some of the big hotel brands nearby.

Don’t be fooled by what some websites say. I was there during the 2017 Carnival holiday, and this so-called “hotel” did not provide breakfast. There’s a kitchen where you can prepare your own meals, including breakfast, but no common area. Reception is just the entrance hall, and there’s rarely anyone there. They hand you the keys to your apartment and the entrance doors, and that’s it. The sheets were dirty and the bath towels were worn out. It’s more like a poor-quality flat than a hotel. The neighborhood isn’t very busy, but it has a pleasant nightlife, and the place is near the subway and Av 9 de julio.

San Telmo is a lovely neighborhood, and this loft is beautiful, bright, spacious, and well equipped, with air conditioning. Plenty of bars and restaurants are less than a block away. Subway and bus stops are three blocks from it.
