The first impression inside our ecodome was almost dreamlike. It had a modern Scandinavian look, with the wood floor, dome and furniture all working nicely together. The bed was comfortable, and the bathroom fixtures were modern and attractive. We stayed for two nights in the middle of Patagonian summer, with tasty food, lovely hiking nearby and easy access to the National park. The view of Fitz Roy mountains from our dome was spectacular. The wood stove kept us warm the first night, but needed tending every 1.5 to 2 hours. It was just warm enough to shower. On the second night it went out, and we couldn’t get it started again, so by morning the room was frigid and a shower was out of the question. Heavy wind shook the dome walls the first night, while the next night was calm and we hardly heard any wind. Friends in another dome had a mouse scampering around, and there was no way to get rid of it. They found the experience very upsetting. I’d describe the ecodomes as glamping: the weather really affects your stay, though the food, lodge-like feel and friendly service add an upscale touch.

You can head straight from the domes onto the iconic Laguna de los Tres hike, about 20 kilometers round trip. There are also lovely nearby routes and viewpoints if you don’t want to do the whole trek. The setting is breathtaking, with unobstructed Fitz Roy views and a peaceful, remote feel. There’s no Wi-Fi or cell service, which suited us. We used the wood fired hot tub and cold plunge every day while looking at Fitz Roy, and the clear glass windows and other added amenities were a welcome update since older reviews. We booked two domes, one with Fitz Roy views and the Deluxe Suite. Both had very comfortable beds and were fantastic. The Deluxe Suite bathroom was a little more modern, but both bathrooms were more than adequate, and a hot shower after hiking felt great. Each evening, the team lit a fire while we were at dinner, so we came back to a warm dome. They also served excellent food every night and packed generous lunches for our hikes. The whole team made us feel welcome and cared for. One windy night reminded us we were in Patagonia. The domes are like luxurious safari tents, so you hear the wind, but we stayed warm and sheltered, and it added to the adventure. If you want nature alongside comfort and hospitality, we couldn’t recommend EcoDomes enough.

The food was really great, and the surroundings were beautiful. Such a wonderful stay, with lovely staff too! 10/10 recommend.

The location was exactly what we wanted, with a real sense of being in Patagonia. I enjoyed the breakfasts and dinners, plus the packed lunches for hikes. The room looked lovely, the beds were comfortable, and the bathroom was impressive for what is essentially a structured tent. When we arrived in the afternoon, sunlight had warmed the room and I was completely taken with it. Sleep was the problem. Once the wind starts howling, the soft dome covers flap loudly, sometimes in a way that’s frightening. Earplugs didn’t help much. The first night we lit the stove, and it warmed the room at first, but the campfire smell got overwhelming and made it hard to breathe or sleep. We didn’t tend the fire overnight because we wanted the smell to clear, so we were exceptionally cold when we got up, even though the beds themselves were warm and comfortable. I hardly slept that night. The next night we skipped the fire and woke up even colder. I really wanted to love the Eco Domes, but it just wasn’t a comfortable stay.

After hours hiking the nearby trails, we’d come back late to a lit fire, warm beds and a dome that smelled amazing. We’re a hiking kind of family, and the eco-domes were just the right size for us, with a beautiful mountain and River nearby. I’ve traveled to lots of places, but I’ve never seen a more breathtaking location. The night sky was incredible, full of stars around Fitz Roy, which you can see from the window. No photos could capture its true beauty.
