I’ve never had a hotel experience this bizarre or this bad. After checking in around 3 pm, I disagreed with the room price and decided to move to another hotel that offered much better value. I told the person at the front desk, and they understood. Since I hadn’t paid or spent the night, they said it was no problem. I stayed at another reasonably priced place that night. The next morning, after checking out of that hotel, the town police stopped me and took me to the station. Carlos, the owner of Hosteria Angelina, had reported that I refused to pay and ran off the night before. At the station, I explained that I’d agreed with the front desk attendant to change hotels. We eventually sorted it out, but the whole thing was handled in a deeply unprofessional way. It felt absurd to be accused after what had seemed like an amicable conversation. The police were friendly, and once I explained, they seemed to understand how strange it all was. I’ve never before had hotel staff involve the police and have them track me down. It made for a very strange vacation story, but I won’t return. The owner’s attitude in this experience was ridiculous, unpleasant, and unprofessional. I’d suggest finding somewhere else to stay.
