Hotel Berlin

The room was small, and the bathroom felt a little awkward, but the place was spotless and the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. On Sunday they even moved breakfast half an hour earlier so we could get going. It’s only 700 meters from the waterfront. Breakfast is served to you rather than set out American-style, and it’s quite complete. The excellent service and warm atmosphere made up for the room’s shortcomings.

We felt very comfortable here, and the cleanliness really stood out. The mattresses seemed new and the beds were comfortable. We booked a double room ahead of the Carnival long weekend because we knew it would be busy. The hotel has an old-fashioned feel but is very well maintained, and everyone, from reception to the kitchen staff and security guard, was friendly and attentive. Breakfast is simple, with coffee, croissants, juice and biscuits. Fruit might be a healthier option. When I asked for toast on our last day, they made it right away with white bread. Covered parking was another plus. I recommend it.

The beds were comfortable, though the lights fixed to the headboard were in the way when lying down. The bathroom had a good shower and hair dryer, the towels were good, and everything was very clean. There’s a covered garage too. Breakfast was only average: the juice wasn’t freshly squeezed, even though oranges are plentiful in the province, and neither the croissants nor the sweets were tasty. There were three of us, but we were seated at one cramped little table while another group of three had two tables. That detail affects the service and should be considered. The night staff were friendly. The morning service, though 🙄.

The location is great, and the service was excellent right from reception. Everything was spotless and breakfast was plentiful. The one drawback is the lack of outlets for phones: there was just one in the room and one in the bathroom.
