Hotel Amsterdam

The breakfast is good, and the hostess seems friendly and to cook it herself. The rooms are small and the renovation could use an update. What really helps is the view from the upper floors. If your room doesn’t have a view, I’d choose another hotel. Most of the guests seemed to be 60 or older.

The location is very good, the basic cleanliness is fine, and the staff are fantastic. I even tripped over the floor polisher on my way to breakfast. They were also incredibly accommodating about letting me keep my motorbike in a private garage overnight. Breakfast is where it falls short. For the price, the basic pastries and toast with slices of ham and cheese were disappointing, and there was nothing hot. Maybe it was just an off day. It has a bit of a Fawlty Towers feel, and I can’t work out why it’s called the Amsterdam, since there’s nothing Dutch about it. The elevator might be their Manuel: it’s absurdly tiny and moves so slowly it could make a parliament blush. And if anyone points you to a nearby restaurant called Manolos, or something like that, don’t go. You’ve been warned.

The buffet breakfast is very good, the hotel is clean, and the staff are polite. It’s a nice place to stay if you want to be near the sea, though the center is too far to walk to. The room Wi-Fi was very poor, so I had to use my mobile data for work video meetings. Wi-Fi in the room was one of the reasons I booked this hotel, so they really need to fix it. Rooms closer to the Wi-Fi device may have been fine, but mine wasn’t.
