Windmill Hostel

The price was amazing, just £20 a night for a private room with breakfast, and the location was convenient: about a 10-minute walk from the bus terminal and another 10 minutes into central Mendoza. Most of what we saw looked like the photos. Two of the three staff members we met were friendly and helpful. The place is pretty worn down and needs upgrades. The pool table was old and slanted, so the balls rolled around on their own, the sofa leather was ripped and flaking, the kitchen utensils were dirty and old, and the microwave didn’t heat food well. The third staff member was rude and unhelpful. We asked twice for information about a paragliding tour. He walked away in the middle of the first conversation, then emailed the tour company the next time because he didn’t know anything, but never followed up. We went elsewhere. He always seemed miserable and made us uncomfortable. We slept badly, with people talking until 1 or 2 a.m. There were no general rules or curfews like at most hostels, and the walls didn’t block much sound. On Halloween, a group who weren’t even staying there had a BBQ on the roof terrace until 2 a.m., then left to go home. The rooftop itself was run down and full of junk. We felt uncomfortable there in general. It’s a cheap hostel, so you get what you pay for. Breakfast included was a nice touch, and it might be fine for one night, but four nights was far too long.
