El Volcán Hotel Serrano

January 2026. We paid $92,000 per day for a double room for two adults, or $184,000 for three days with the 2-for-1 offer. The hotel dates back to 1937, from the area's heyday. There are a few photos from that time in the breakfast area, but we were disappointed that there wasn't more information. Apparently, it even used to have an orchestra. The entrance hall floors and some lounge floors are original. Some sections haven't been open for a while, while others seem to open only for this season. The grounds are beautiful, with lots of greenery, seating, and three pools, one of them with a children's play area. It's very peaceful and relaxing, with shared areas where you can watch TV, have a drink, or eat something. Covered parking is available if there’s space, though during our stay there was always a spot. Our suite had been renovated in 2010. It was immaculate, comfortable, spacious, and the service was excellent. Breakfast was decent for the price.

The staff were excellent, and the hotel has a beautiful old character, renovated while keeping its essence. Our room was spectacular, spacious, and lovely, with a jacuzzi and minibar. The pools and big park were beautiful, and the facilities were very good. Breakfast was simple but did the job. We paid 180,000 for three days for two people in January 26, about what a cheap cabin costs.

The two women who served us were very kind and tried their best, but we never got hot water, so I couldn't shower during our one-night stay. There was no cable TV either because of another problem. When I went to report the hot water issue at 6:50 a.m., there was nobody around. It's a beautiful hotel, but the service was very bad. I'm quite dissatisfied.

The price felt far too high for what was offered. The mattress was extremely thin and uncomfortable, and even pushing two mattresses together didn't make sleeping any better. A good night's sleep matters a lot in accommodation, and this fell short. The building also feels old, worn down, and poorly maintained. It clearly needs urgent renovation, since signs of wear and lack of investment show in several areas. I hope they update the place to match what they charge, because it could have much more potential.
