La Comunidad Hostel

The rooms and hostel are nice, but the facilities weren't good and it didn't feel like a social hostel. Staff couldn't speak English or Spanish, and mostly spoke Portuguese.

Good location, and a fun place to hang out.

We found this place on Booking.com, but the photos made it look completely different. It was dirty and neglected, with dampness, broken furniture and glass, dust, and cobwebs everywhere. The kitchen was in poor shape too, and the bathroom was deplorable: damp, broken flooring, a rotten wooden sink, and a toilet tank with no water pressure. We were put in a room with people who live there, and couldn't even use the furniture. The residents' belongings were very dirty and disorganized. The rooms were damp, and there were no outlets by the beds. To charge a phone or anything else, we had to use a regular power strip beside the bed. The wiring seemed dangerous, and plugging something in might trip the breaker. They say there's a terrace for hanging clothes, but it's really just the roof, with no safety railings. The entrance wasn't marked, with no sign outside. They advertise Wi-Fi throughout the property, but it only reached the common area, not the rooms farther away. The staff were friendly but very inattentive. One person handles both check-in and check-out, so if they're asleep, you have to wake them. I definitely wouldn't return.

We went on Saturday, August 6th, and found the room dirty. The sheets were stained and smelled musty. At night we saw bedbugs, and we couldn't sleep because we were afraid of being bitten. Staff control when you can come and go, so having to track them down just to leave is inconvenient. The bathrooms were poorly maintained, with only one toilet for women. I don't recommend staying here. For the price, there are much better options.
