Hostel Marilian

For a private room, it was passable. I’ve backpacked around the world and can put up with a lot, but the bathroom here was mouldy and unhygienic. The room itself was only okay at best.

José, the owner, came through for me when I arrived in Salta and every hostel seemed fully booked. He somehow found a way for me to stay for 3 days, and I’d happily stay here again. It’s a new hostel a couple of blocks from the city’s main square, with good beds, privacy curtains, large lockers, soap, and fluffy towels. Breakfast is served at a hotel around the corner. The lady who works there was also super nice, though unfortunately I didn’t get her name.

The kitchen is compact, but there are good shared pantry supplies. The hostel looks nice and is in a great spot. It felt a little pricey, and both the dorms and men's bathroom get crowded. Jose is great to chat with and happy to help with whatever you need.

We ended up liking our stay enough that we came back for one more night in Salta, and the price made that an easy choice. The owner was warm and helpful, the place feels modern and new, the location is ideal, and the beds are really comfortable, though a bit cramped. Our first few nights were rough because it was overcrowded: lots of noise, a tiny kitchen always full, and just two toilets and two showers per gender that got dirty fast. We arrived at 5am hoping to leave our bags, but despite what the online listing said, there was no night staff. The last few nights were much quieter and went perfectly well. I think who else is staying there can make a big difference.
