Hosteria Las Violetas

We were only there for one night in January 2024, but felt very comfortable and would definitely return. The room was basic, comfortable, and had air conditioning. The staff member who manages the place was friendly, and Guillermina and her sister were wonderful about cleaning and making sure we were comfortable. The location is excellent, half a block from the Santa Rosa pedestrian street. In the common areas, there’s a patio with a grapevine, small tables and a grill, plus a shared kitchen with a refrigerator, microwave, stove, and other basics. The bar and dining area is at the front. There’s also a small heated pool for cold weather. One suggestion: the pillows could be more comfortable.

The pool is pleasant, and the location is the one real plus. The rest felt more like a campsite dorm room. It was noisy, the rooms were damp, and cleaning was poor, with black mold all over the bathroom. The bathroom layout was awkward and water had nowhere to drain. The fan didn’t work, while the air conditioner sat at the same height as the bed, only about 50 cm away. Breakfast was like something from a roadside kiosk. The staff were friendly, but that didn’t make up for the bad service.

The location was the only good part. It was a disaster, and far too expensive for what you get. Everything is packed together. The pool sits right beside the downstairs rooms, with almost no room around it, so several guests can’t all fit at the edge. For a hotel this size, the heated pool is tiny. The rooms were small and not very clean. There was nowhere to open a suitcase except on the bed, and the closets were too damp and battered to use. The mattress was acceptable, but the pillows weren’t. The blankets were ancient. The bathroom was awful: cramped, with a shower that dripped water everywhere, even soaking the toilet paper if you weren’t careful. The towels were paper thin and had holes. There were only two staff members for the whole hotel, and their helpfulness was about what you’d expect in those circumstances. My room was said to have a mountain view, but it was 90% the neighbor’s filthy yard and 10% mountains. The covered parking was very tight. The communal kitchen could fit only one person, its fridge was tiny and dirty, and there was just one kettle that held at most a liter. I do not recommend this place.

Beto’s service was excellent. He was attentive and really helpful, and the heated pool was nice too. We had one of the cheapest rooms, which was quite small, including the bathroom. Since we were hardly in there, it worked out fine for us as a young couple. In our room, the bathroom faucet leaked and the shower didn’t work properly. There were also ants outside, though none of that was too bothersome. Breakfast was basic, so don’t expect much.
