El Hostal de Victoria Hotel y Cabanas

The stay was really unpleasant and uncomfortable. Elba, the manager or owner, got irritated and spoke rudely whenever we raised a polite concern, like the broken toilet or the water not being hot. She made excuses and didn’t acknowledge the problems or apologize. Only after we kept insisting did she offer a possible fix. The room we booked was quadruple, but the trundle bed wasn’t made. The sheets were folded up for us to put on ourselves. It was gloomy and badly lit, and the booking photos looked nothing like the actual place. The building is run-down, with damp coming up from the foundation, cracked and peeling walls, and mold. There were spiders throughout the room and bathroom. The toilet was broken, and the split air conditioner’s louver seemed broken too, held in place with a bit of cotton. There was no maintenance to speak of. The customer service was awful, inattentive, unhelpful, and without empathy. One star feels too generous.

There are a few nice views, but that’s about the only positive. The room was in rough shape, with constantly flickering lights, poor cleaning, a strong musty smell, stained mattresses and pillows, and bugs and spiders everywhere. The doors had no locks or latches, and the bathroom was damaged, with exposed wires and obvious cracks. The place has had very little maintenance. Staff treated us with indifference and little respect.

The atmosphere was so welcoming, it felt like home. Elba, the owner, gave excellent service. Everything was perfect, highly recommend.
