Hotel Fontanet

We had our first “child-free” getaway here, and it was a brilliant idea. If you’re after a break without kids crying and shouting in the hallways, it worked well for us. We loved the board games too, and used them a lot. The hotel is very clean, with a lovely ocean view. It’s a block from the beach and a few blocks from the center, so we could walk everywhere. The rooms are standard and exactly as advertised. I’d read complaints about bed size, but ours was normal. We spent our days at the beach and doing other things, and mainly came back to sleep, so room size wasn’t a big deal for us. Everyone was friendly and helpful, including the owners, the breakfast and cleaning women, and staff across all three reception shifts. On our first day there was a problem with the bathroom drain, and they fixed it right away. Breakfast was delicious: toast, dark bread, croissants, jam, dulce de leche, butter, cream cheese, tea, orange juice, ham, and cheese. There’s a hot and cold water dispenser available 24 hours a day in the dining room and reception area. They don’t serve meals, but there are lots of delivery options and they’ll bring an order to your room. You can use the dining room and its utensils, or eat in your room at the table and chairs. There’s also a fridge at reception where you can keep things. Covered parking was essential for us, and they have it. It’s a bit awkward with an SUV, but a couple of maneuvers got us parked. We had a really nice stay. Highly recommended, and many thanks for everything.

The room size was fine, but the double bed was a little uncomfortable for two tall, somewhat overweight people. We could also hear other guests slamming their doors, and sometimes it woke us up. A better bed and some kind of door stopper might help. Everything else was great: the breakfast was very good, the water dispenser was a nice bonus, and the staff were excellent. Maxi was great.

The beds were awful, just 90 cm wide, and the bedrooms were incredibly small. I only managed one night and lost the booking for the next one because I couldn’t sleep in such a cramped bed. Terrible experience, it should be zero stars. We’d reserved through Booking.com, then the hotel called offering a discount if we booked directly. Of course, that meant paying a deposit for two nights, which Booking.com would have charged on arrival. That felt like a deceptive sales tactic.

The hotel is in a great spot, close to everything, and the price was very good. We felt comfortable and peaceful there. The breakfast was excellent, and the staff were so attentive and friendly. We’ll be back, thank you very much!
