We stayed in the dorm rooms on two separate nights. Both times, the owner wouldn't let us choose beds, even though we arrived first and the booking system gave us no way to pick one. We felt the beds should have been assigned first come, first served. On the second night we were split between two rooms, and we couldn't see why. Yet each time, the owner was quick to mention a free room at a higher price. That didn't feel fair.

I liked the old-fashioned feel of this small hostel, especially the little birds kept indoors. It's in a residential area, about a 10-minute walk from the station. The check-in hours were inconvenient, though. I arrived early in the morning to leave my luggage, then came back hoping to wait inside, but the doors had already been locked until 5pm. With the transitional lock, you can't get in once the doors are closed unless you have a key.

The staff were lovely and always helpful and accommodating. As a woman travelling alone, I felt safe, and there are lockers for valuables. The rooms and facilities were clean, too. It's about a 15-minute walk from the main bus station and 10 minutes from the restaurants by the river. I'd happily stay here again and recommend it.

I found a bug under my pillow when I woke up, which made an already frustrating stay worse. My friend had booked me a shared room, and since I wasn't comfortable sleeping with strangers, I asked about moving to a private one. I had found a room on booking.com for around 90 pounds, but the receptionist suggested arranging an upgrade directly would be cheaper. I trusted her and cancelled the booking, then paid 120 pounds for the new room, 30 pounds more. I have a hard time seeing this as a three star hotel.

The place felt more like a hostel than the 3⭐ hotel it was advertised as, even though we had a private room, and I thought the price didn't match the rating. The bathroom was dated and the shower could use renovation. On the plus side, the staff were helpful: they brought me a hair drier when I asked and suggested places to visit nearby. Breakfast seems to be included in the price, which was fine since there were enough choices for different tastes.
