We spent three weeks here in summer, on our 12th visit to Apartment Kristall. The apartment is very comfortable, and the house is in a peaceful spot. The Ascher family, who live there, and the hotel staff are always around and ready to help. From the valley station, a 10-minute walk away, you can get up to the Tauplitzalm. There are also swimming lakes, Trautenfels Castle, Bad Aussee, Altaussee, and plenty of other attractions nearby. We highly recommend staying here.

The property owners tried to stop us from skiing through their land, in what felt like a display of small-minded pettiness. It wasn't clear that passage was unwelcome, especially since there was already a track. Even so, the landlady, who looked about seventy, swung a shovel at us! O_o I understand that residents don't want skiers in their garden, but with 3m of snow we couldn't make out where the property ended. A red barrier tape would have kept us away. There was no need for a shovel-wielding bit of vigilante justice! We've been regulars at the Tauplitz ski area for about 20 years and nothing like this has happened before. We're mildly shocked. Still, it snows in other places too.

The place seems stuck in the 70s, and the rooms are so big the heating can't quite keep up. The view of the Grimming mountain is fantastic, though, and you're right on the slopes with the ski lift almost at your doorstep.
