We had a really enjoyable stay at Wagnerhof, and for the price the whole experience was great. The breakfast buffet was pleasant and used local products, though I’m used to more substantial breakfasts in Austria. The vegetable selection was especially small, just a few cherry tomatoes and other bits. They brought more when we asked, but we’d have eaten about three times as much. Breakfast runs from 8 to 10, and 10 means it’s over. Our neighbors arrived at 9:45 and couldn’t get boiled eggs. If you sleep lightly, people heading to breakfast around 8 may wake you. The shared kitchen has a fridge and designated food space for each room. It works fine for simple meals like sausages, pasta, or frozen pizza, with an oven, double hotplate, and basic pots and pans. There’s no microwave or Teflon pan, so don’t plan on baking a wedding cake. You’re staying on a working farm, in the same house as the family, with just a few guest rooms. The family has lots of animals, so you might see ducks around the house and hear or smell the cows in the barn. We knew what to expect and enjoyed it, but anyone sensitive to farm life may not. The rooms at the back are nice but smaller. The front room with a balcony was much better for us, with a sofa on the balcony, a nice view, and more space inside. We’d specifically asked for at least one balcony room. The house isn’t suited to parties or big groups drinking late, and guests are expected to keep noise down. I was a little concerned by comments about this, but it didn’t feel restrictive to us since we’re generally quiet. A small child crying could be a bit tricky, though. There are lots of interesting places nearby.

We spent a lovely summer week at Waganerhof Farm and would love to see it in another season. It’s peaceful and uncrowded, with beautiful views from the windows and balcony, and the main attractions are about 8-10 km away. There are lovely bike paths nearby and you can swim in Odensee lake. Astrid speaks English very well and suggested some interesting places and hiking trails in the area. She was kind and cheerful, and made sure we had everything we needed. It’s amazing how clean and well kept the farm is. Our renovated, cozy room was cleaned every day, and the open kitchen had everything needed to prepare a meal. Breakfast was included and delicious, with homemade food Astrid prepared each morning, including jam and yogurt, as well as fresh milk and eggs from the farm. It gave us plenty of energy for full days in the mountains, and the kids loved it. The Steiner family have created a welcoming place where we felt right at home.

The room was clean, nice, and spacious, the breakfast was excellent, and the surroundings were pleasant. Still, there were a couple of things that left a bad impression. There are no farm activities in winter. The animals stay in the stable, which felt rather crowded, and you can look at them but that’s about it. The sound insulation in the house is poor. The hosts get up early, so guests are expected to be very quiet in the evenings. One room is right next to their private apartment, which definitely isn’t ideal. Because of that, we’ll stay somewhere else next time. We made some noise one night without realizing it, and I think Astrid will remember it for the rest of her life.
