We spent Christmas at Maria Plain Apartments Plainstöckl as nine people across two apartments, and it made the visit especially lovely. The view is spectacular, and having the beautiful church nearby was a blessing. Both apartments felt cozy and like a home away from home. They were spotless, comfortable and beautifully decorated. You can tell a lot of care went into the place. We’d happily return and recommend it to anyone visiting the area.

A lovely guest house with a great breakfast. I had the house special bratwurst dinner, which was good, and the three-flavor ice cream dessert was spectacular. Nothing like it in the US. It was more like sorbet or gelato, without being too sweet. Wonderful!

The dining deck view was outstanding, but we were very disappointed with the stay. We didn’t get the room we’d booked and paid $700nzd for two nights in Arnold, an outdated room with a very low bed and just one flat pillow each. We were told there were no spare pillows on either night. There was no air conditioning, and no fans available either, so it felt like a sauna. The tiny shower had very little pressure and went cold quickly. Worst of all, the high step into it and slippery floor meant I had to get my husband to help me in.

The staff were lovely, especially Christina (I believe that was her name), who was warm, funny and very helpful. My room was clean and comfortable, and €135 felt well worth it. Breakfast was decent with a good range of choices. The guest house has stunning views of the Alps and Salzburg city, and there’s a beautiful church nearby that’s well worth seeing. I enjoyed the stay so much that I wished I’d booked an extra day. This place has won my heart, and I’ll definitely be back soon.

Everything we tried at this excellent Austrian restaurant was great. The traditional sausages came in different varieties, and there was fresh beer and lovely desserts. The Knödel and Esterhasi were the best I’ve ever had.
