The gardens around the castle are so lush, and the fortress itself is gorgeous. The service really made it a five-star stay. I'd definitely recommend it.

Quiet, simple, and high quality, that's what luxury means here. The family has owned the castle since the late 19th century and manages this peaceful retreat with real care. A magnificent place to spend time in history.

There are only a handful of rooms, and they have no TV or WiFi, or even a room key. That makes the place feel intimate rather than commercial. It's about halfway between Vienna and Graz, in a stunning spot, with Old World class done perfectly and sensational food.

The natural garden was my favorite, and I'd love to see that kind of biodiversity at castles around the world. The landscape was beautiful this October, all colorful like a painted masterpiece. What an unbelievable place and family. The Almásy family from Hungary has an amazing history, with many famous explorers, including the “English patient” portrayed by Ralph Finnes in the Oscar winning movie from 1996. The castle is a must-see for anyone passing through Burgerland.
