Der Löwen

The Cordon Bleu and Cheese Spaetzle were both delicious. Service was quick and friendly too.

Everyone got their food at the same time, and it was very good. The staff at "Der Löwen" were exceptionally friendly and quick to notice when anyone needed something. This was my first visit, for our department’s Christmas party. We’d preordered, so I can’t say how quickly the kitchen usually serves. I’ll definitely come back with my family.

I stayed here in September 2022 and arrived by train late at night. Finding the entrance was confusing: there’s no formal reception area or sign showing the main entrance, so I ended up going into the restaurant, where a waitress checked me in at the cash register. We had to carry our heavy suitcases upstairs because there’s no elevator. The room and building felt dated but were clean, and there was plenty of hot water. The shower door didn’t keep the water in, though, and the bathroom nearly flooded, with water reaching the bedroom too. We used towels to block it. At check-in, the waitress asked if we wanted to pay for breakfast in advance. It was about $13USD per person, so I agreed. I went down a few minutes late the next morning, and they still let me have what was left. It was basically what we call Continental Breakfast in the states, and I didn’t think it was worth the $13USD. Months after we left, I got an email saying I still owed for the room. I replied that I’d booked through an internet travel site and paid there. They had also taken my credit card details at check-in but hadn’t charged it for the room, only for breakfast, because the room was already paid through that website. The manager said she was new, reviewing the accounts, and had found my bill unpaid, and asked me to send proof. I was annoyed and told her that if they hadn’t noticed a customer supposedly hadn’t paid for nearly a year, that was a stupid way to run a business, and that I had paid. I called the travel website, explained the issue, and they said they’d contact the hotel and handle it. I thought that was settled. Then I got another email today, December 2023, saying it was still unpaid. I’m not going to bother with them. A bunch of idiots are running this place. I strongly discourage anyone from staying here. Save yourselves a headache.

Since the reopening, after the management and chef changed, I’ve eaten at the restaurant twice. The food was delicious, and the new chef deserves thanks. I didn’t expect such good quality from a place without an established reputation yet. The restaurant rooms feel welcoming, and the staff are thoughtful and dedicated. There’s a large outdoor area and parking spaces too. I’ll be back!
