The campsite was perfect until it was time to settle the bill. I’d asked the night before how much electricity I’d used and was told 9 kwatts, so I decided to stay another night. The next morning, they said the usage had actually been 145 kwatts. They admitted it was their human error, but still expected me to pay for it: 137.75 euros. Three nights cost 350 euros. Be aware if you stay here.

The campsite has a lot going for it, including a small shop, restaurant, playroom, bike rental and spa. The spa is really nice, especially the upstairs relaxation rooms. There’s no shared freezer or fridge for campers. I hadn’t thought to ask when booking, so we had to cool the packs for our little portable fridge to keep our food cold. Luckily, the weather stayed cold during our visit and the food was fine, but I can see this being an issue in hot weather. There are also very few toilets and showers for a campsite this size.

The swimming options alone make the €7 per person per day pool fee well worthwhile. There are two 50 m Olympic swimming lanes, an indoor pool and jacuzzi, a heated outdoor pool, a splash area for children, and a separate slide. It’s open daily from 0600 to 2000. This is definitely a five star campsite, with facilities that are hard to beat. The toilet block is immaculate and luxurious, with toilets in separate rooms from the wash facilities. Downstairs there are separate bathrooms and a cosmetic room with a lit mirror and pull-down hood hair dryer. The shop runs from 0730 to 2100, with a half-hour break from 1700 to 1730. The restaurant is lovely too, serving good food at reasonable, though not cheap, prices. There’s a playground near the restaurant and another near the beautiful lake, which has swimming jetties and a lakeside cafe for drinks and ice creams. The camping and caravanning pitches are clearly marked and drain well, with options for plumbed water and waste drainage. In mid-August, a caravan, awning, car, three adults and one child cost €599, with electricity extra at €0.95, payable at the end. The tourist charge covers free transport as far as Salzburg via Bruck and back. The station is a five-minute drive away and also easy to walk to, and parking is on site. Highly recommend this campsite.

The location is nice, the games room is great, and I loved the slide inside the hotel. Breakfast being the same every day is normal, so that didn’t bother me. But after skiing, I came back to find the cleaners had left my back door open on a day that was around 0 or 1 degrees. My room was absolutely cold, and I had valuables inside, so it could have led to theft, though thankfully nothing was taken. Dinner is another issue: there’s no menu or choice, they just serve things like soup. Sometimes the chefs seem out of ideas and mix random food together. What happens if someone has an allergy? Please stop leaving the back doors open and let us choose our meals.
