Christophorushütte am Feuerkogel

The hut was cosy and comfortable, and we spent a few hours playing Action with the board games and cards before dinner. I was there with my wife and our kids, ages 9 and 10. Views are amazing in every direction, with hikes for all kinds of abilities. The menu mixed traditional Tyrol food with a few really tasty Nepalese dishes, plus plenty of beer and schnapps. The staff were welcoming, very nice, and helpful. I'd highly recommend it if you're after great scenery and a break from the heat.

We didn't stay overnight in the hut, so I can't speak to the accommodation, but if you go up Feuerkogel, do eat there. We were surprised by how many vegan choices they had. The vegan curry was excellent, the vegan chicken nuggets were great, and even the French fries (pommes) were the best we had on our trip in Austria. We usually don't expect much from restaurants at the top of a mountain, but the food here was delicious.

The food was good, and I especially liked the Nepalese dishes on the unusual menu, as well as the famous Brizza. During busy days, though, getting our order could take a long time. We spent one night here in December, right at the top of Feuerkogel, where there are lots of options for skiing and hiking and the views are beautiful. We had booked a place in the big room (lager), but it was much too cold for me. There were plenty of blankets, but even my sleeping bag and the blankets couldn't keep me warm. Luckily, a double room was free, so we moved. It was cosy and nicer, though still not exactly warm, and I appreciated the hot water bottle in the bed. We had planned to stay another night, but people were smoking in the restaurant area in the evening. I have chronic lung disease and try to avoid smoke at any cost, so spending NYE eve in a room with people smoking felt difficult. I can imagine this hut working well for a group of friends.
