Hüttenresort Feuerkogel

We booked the cabin for September 2024, and unfortunately had the same problem someone else mentioned: it still wasn't clean, and the broken things hadn't been fixed. At this price, that was very disappointing. I complained to the "tour operator" and got an apology, but no further action. The competitor's cabin next door, by comparison, was absolutely perfect and easy to recommend.

We stayed at the Steinkogelhütte. It was clean and had the equipment we needed. There wasn’t much snow, so some of the slopes were closed, but there are pleasant walks and hikes to do as well. The view over Lake Traunsee at Ebensee is breathtaking, especially at sunset.

We rented the „Dachstein“ cabin on Feuerkogel over New Year 2023/24. This was our second visit to the cabin village, and the arrival and departure arrangements, including baggage transport, were handled really well. The cabin itself was in very poor condition for upkeep and cleanliness. We don't expect luxury furnishings in a mountain cabin, but what is there shouldn't look like it came from a junk pile. The heater in the ski-boot room had been torn off the wall, and there was so much junk in that room that there was hardly space for ski gear. In the bunk room, a cupboard door was missing and the curtain rail was broken. Many ceiling lights had no covers, the living room couch was coming apart, and some bed slats were broken. The mattresses were also well past their best; you could feel every spring. Although every renter has to pay a cleaning fee, the cabin was barely swept clean. Dirt and mess left by previous guests were everywhere.

The hiking trails were fantastic, but we found the cabin shockingly dirty, as if it hadn't been properly cleaned or maintained in years. The curtains, doors, sofa and beds were damaged, stained or dirty, which was completely unacceptable. We even left it cleaner than we found it. For what it costs, the value is a flat 5 out of 10. It could be a really nice place, and then the price might make sense, but the owners have let it get into this state. As it is, it just isn't worth it.
