Sporthotel Fontana

We’ve stayed here twice already and I’m sure we’ll come again. It’s a large hotel with friendly staff, right on the slopes, and the mountain lift is only a few steps from the backdoor. Some rooms are a bit dated, but they’re spacious and warm, with everything we needed.

The dining facility and lobby are uncomfortably warm, while the swimming pool is cold. Dinner was a letdown: each day there were three choices, meat, fish or vegetarian, but we found the meals bland, overcooked and heavy on carbs. The room interior is clean but quite 80s. Not vintage, just old. This feels like a tourist factory at the bottom of the piste, squeezing the last out of a worn-down hotel late in its life. There are some good points: attentive, friendly staff, quick service, clean rooms, and a hot shower with strong pressure. The modern bar has a great panoramic view of the piste, as does the gazebo-style dining area. Breakfast is a complete continental spread, and there’s direct access to the piste plus heated storage for skis and gear.

The location is the big win for skiing and snowboarding: it’s on the lower side of the slope, next to the ski school and 3 lifts. The property is a bit outdated but maintained. There are 3 saunas in the spa, so it doesn’t get too busy, although they only open from 16:00. The pool is a bit small, but fine if you don’t tend to swim miles. Don’t count on a massage: there aren’t enough masseurs, and the quality isn’t something to write home about.

The hotel is Pervect! It’s a 5 minutes' walk to Bergbahn, and the staff are SO attentive and helpful. Lovely hotel, good leisure area, and the food is good and varied.
