Inselhotel Faakersee

The island never felt crowded, and there was plenty to do: a tennis court, a half basketball court, paddle boards by the beach, and even a rowboat. Sitting by the water under an umbrella, the mountain views were lovely. The grounds are very well kept, and the rooms are clean, comfortable, and have great views. The building is quite old, but it’s been renovated with modern amenities while keeping its charm and character. The staff are all super lovely, and nothing seems too difficult for them. They’re always happy to help and clearly love their work. Breakfast was excellent, and lunch was very good too, though we mostly took day trips to Villach. Slovenia is literally down the road. Dinner was a set menu with a few options, including some for vegetarians. The food was excellent, with something different every night. The island setting is a special start, but the caring management, good cooking, lovely staff, and clean rooms made it feel like more than five stars. I can’t wait to come back.

Excellent hotel. Don’t follow Google Maps, it’ll take you past a tennis club and send you the wrong way. Head into the middle of Lake Faak.
