The meals were good to very good, the staff were very friendly, and our room was kept very clean. We also liked the spacious spa and the atmosphere in the saunas. What made the stay difficult was the mattress. It was unbelievably hard, and for two nights I couldn't sleep more than three hours. When the spa opened at 7 a.m., I went to the quiet room because even the sun loungers were softer. We only learned at checkout that mattress toppers were available for an extra €5. It would help if guests were asked about their mattress preference when their shoe and robe sizes are collected. My wife developed a skin reaction while using the towels, which had never happened to her before. We would have appreciated being asked at checkout how things had gone, though we understand the hotel was very busy. If the mattresses and laundry products were changed, we'd consider coming back.

The family-run feel is a big part of what makes Hotel Schaefer so welcoming. You can tell the Schaefer family cares about its guests and the atmosphere, and there are lots of thoughtful touches. We’ve stayed twice and have never felt so relaxed and looked after at a hotel. There are lovely walks starting right at the hotel, and it worked well as a base for some great day tours. Back at the hotel, the saunas are a treat after a day out. The rooms are modern, high quality, and spotless, and the whole place feels peaceful. The food was a highlight for me: fresh, really good quality, and satisfying at every meal. After a few days I felt recharged, and I can’t wait to return.

The adults-only setup, spa, and natural surroundings made this one of the most relaxing holidays we've had in a long time. We especially enjoyed the food, with fresh local ingredients at breakfast and a wonderful six-course dinner. The staff were warm, professional, and welcoming from the moment we arrived. Our room was bright and spacious, with a generous balcony overlooking the mountains. Staying at Das Schäfer exceeded our expectations.

We enjoyed the clean, spacious rooms, the tasty food with a fairly good selection, and the spa and pool. The Alps around the hotel are beautiful, and ski areas are a short distance away. We came away with a good impression overall, though a couple of things could have been handled better. After skiing, we couldn't extend our stay by a few hours because the hotel was full. We asked if we could take a quick shower before continuing our journey, but there was no option, which surprised us given the pool area has plenty of showers. We've also felt that the service offered, or not offered, may differ depending on guests' age. As relatively young guests, we noticed people receiving different kinds of service. We do recommend the hotel, but staff could do a better job of meeting guests' expectations.

The setting is a tiny village in the mountains, with endless options for hiking, massage, and learning about local nature and history. Our tourist tax also covered free rides on most gondolas, and the Sonntag Seilbahn was a great experience. We visited in early to mid-June, before the tourist season picked up. The hotel is family owned and run, and the staff were very friendly and attentive to detail. I expected the food to be healthy wellness fare, but dinner was also a real treat for food lovers. Each evening brought a different six-course menu, with three entrées to choose from, built around local traditions and less common wild herbs. The presentation was beautiful, like you'd expect at a Michelin restaurant. There was also a local cheese bar. Breakfast had made-to-order eggs with smoked bacon or whatever you wanted, plus a muesli bar with around 15 grains, seeds, and fruits. You could mix hot drinks from a wall of herbs, and there was honeycomb, pine tip honey, homemade jam, and lots of fresh-baked rolls and breads. Breakfast was heavenly. The spa was just as enjoyable. There's a warm indoor pool connected to a much warmer outdoor one through automatic double doors, plus a corner with bubbles like a giant Jacuzzi. Two of the three saunas have a full glass wall, so you can look out at the mountains from the hay flower sauna at 60-65 C or the Finnish sauna at 85-90 C.
