Haus Grugger

Before the holiday had even started, I was told, “Well, of course you’re not allowed to leave your dog in your room.” Booking doesn’t say that the landlord expects to decide whether an animal can be left alone in the apartment. I politely suggested adding this information to Booking, but got a confused response: “You’re not allowed to leave your dog alone in a hotel either.” But you can, of course. It’s even illegal to dictate what someone can and can’t do. A dog can be left alone for 2-3 hours in everyday life, and that won’t hurt an animal that’s used to it ;) It’s a shame. Landlords who tell you how to spend your holiday are best avoided. Maybe they shouldn’t rent to guests, since people generally want to enjoy their holiday their own way, without being told how to live.

The place was peaceful, which suited us perfectly since it’s outside Bad Hofgastein and helped us avoid most of the tourist crowds. It’s about a 20-minute walk to the Schlossalm cable car. We stayed upstairs in a beautifully renovated apartment with a great atmosphere. It was clean and the kitchenette had everything we needed. Our two dogs were welcome, and the water comes fresh from the house’s own spring. We’d love to return. Many thanks to the Grugger family for the hiking trail and local restaurant tips.

It’s a very good place to stay, despite a few small shortcomings :) Kathlin, one of the hosts, speaks English; the others speak German. You need to ask for a Gastein card!

Everything was nice and clean, and the host was friendly. I can only recommend it.
