Hotel Gaspingerhof

The spa was a highlight, with good-sized indoor and outdoor pools, a sauna, and other facilities. We also appreciated the pleasant dining area and chose half board, which included a substantial breakfast buffet and a high-quality five-course dinner. The bar is comfortable, and the attentive staff serve until the last guest heads to bed. I travelled with two friends, which can be an awkward number for booking, but Hotel Gaspingerhof had family rooms. Our deluxe family room with a balcony worked well for three adults: a double bed and a very comfortable pull-out sofa in the main room, with enough space between them for privacy, plus a separate room with a single bed. There was lots of storage with wardrobes and drawers, and the shower and WC room was very pleasant and finished to a high standard. My small complaints were that there was no safe and the balcony wasn't very appealing. We hardly spent time in the room, though, so that mattered little. A convenient tunnel connects the hotel to the ski depot, so you can walk to your boot locker in slippers. The tunnel also leads to the nearby Gaspis restaurant and bar. Most of all, the staff are friendly and attentive and make you feel at home right away. We had a fine stay, and I highly recommend it.

We used the indoor spa and pool, and I highly recommend getting a massage. The staff, especially Brigitte, were warm and welcoming, and the service was spot on. We spent a few days here celebrating our friends' birthday and were very happy with the stay. I'd gladly stay at Hotel Gaspingerhof again.

The sauna was really, really good, and the rooms themselves were pleasant, though we could hear a neighbor's TV late at night. The spa and the hotel's position beside the main ski elevator were also good points. But this stay didn't feel worth the price, and the hotel did not live up to its current star rating. Our family booked four rooms, two apartments and two double rooms, and there were too many small problems for a four-star hotel. The floor heating in the apartments was broken all week. When we contacted reception, they said it was no problem and that they had called a mechanic, but offered no help in the meantime. At checkout, the receptionist blamed us for not pushing harder to get it fixed, even though I feel the hotel should have taken responsibility. The outdoor pool temperature was okay, but the indoor pool was colder and too cold for the kids to play in. When we asked about it, staff said that wasn't true and made us feel weird for raising it. Nothing was done afterward. We also reserved a table in the hotel restaurant, then were asked the day before to move it earlier because they couldn't serve us when a larger group of full-board guests arrived. We had to find another restaurant at the last minute ourselves. When we brought these and other issues up at checkout, our family wasn't treated respectfully and got no understanding. Staff blamed us for not contacting reception, although we'd done so several times. The hotel staff and stay should be at a four-star level, but that wasn't our experience. I'd advise others to choose another hotel in Gerlos. My family and I certainly won't return.

After days out hiking, mountain biking, climbing, sightseeing, or paragliding, it was lovely to come back for an Austrian beer while the kids jumped into the pool. That pool is a real plus, and the staff are very friendly. There's a sauna, spa, and restaurant too. We spent a week here as a family of five. The valley has plenty to do, and I can't think of a better place to return to afterward. We stayed in the apartments, which had great beds, fantastic views, and enough room for all our stuff. The balcony was huge, though shared.
