A standard, average stay that felt reasonably priced at €107 for two people for one night, including breakfast. Breakfast was okay, nothing special. The room was clean and fairly cozy, with a comfortable bed, a TV, and a small veranda that faced another house. Dogs can stay in the room, though the extra €10 charge wasn’t very clear when booking. The parking lot was full when we arrived around 1930, but the host showed us another place to park.

Breakfast was generous, with more kinds of bread, crackers, and healthy spreads than you usually get. The guesthouse is a beautifully renovated old watermill, and the friendly owner is happy to share information when asked. My room was clean and cozily decorated. I’d ask for one at the front of the house. The back room has a balcony but gets no sun, and opening the window brings the smell of cows from the neighboring farm. The house is just outside the town center by a fairly busy road, so you can hear cars with the window open, though it didn’t bother me. It’s easy to reach the center, and there’s a well-kept garden. I’d recommend it to anyone who likes a modern, cozy place to explore Gmünd.

We come every year and will be back again. The hotel has lovely new, well-equipped rooms, incredibly friendly service, and a generous breakfast. It’s in the middle of the Alps, with the Porsche museum in town and Maltal HochalpenSrasse just around the corner.
