Klein Schöntal

You’re warmly welcomed, and there’s a good bed and peace and quiet at night. From dawn, or even earlier, until dusk, the farm is busy. This is a fully working dairy farm, with three generations living there and two working, not a bed and breakfast with a few chickens. The whole family is involved. Your host, Anneliese, handles daily farm chores while looking after holiday guests too. She does it brilliantly, with a natural, down-to-earth warmth, so don’t expect hotel-style smooth procedures. She’ll cook dinner as well, and it tastes like the sort of homemade meal grandma used to make, using the farm’s own produce. The milk is natural, the eggs come from the chickens you can see around the house, and the bread, yoghurt and jam are homemade. Try the sourdough rye bread even if you’re not used to it instead of the usual rolls. Most Austrians prefer “Semmel” for breakfast, made from fine white wheat flour. Anneliese’s son and his wife Silvia, who is very kind and helpful, run the farm and the seasonal holiday guest business. It’s an ideal spot for people who love nature and the beautiful Eastern Alps scenery in Austria.
