Hotel Alter Telegraf

I don’t like giving low ratings, but this place didn’t deserve a better one. What bothered us most was the smell, especially for €105 a night. The staircase looked unclean and smelled of food because the door to the adjoining restaurant was open. An ashtray with a cigarette in it sat right outside our room. Once we were inside, there was another strange smell. It took us a day to work out that it came from a bathroom drain that smelled like a gutter. We spent the first night breathing that strong smell without knowing where it was coming from. The room had an older interior, with a TV, couches, a toilet and a bathroom. The bed was nice, the only real plus, and everything else served its purpose despite being old-fashioned. Breakfast was another disappointment. The tablecloth was dirty, and used dishes were left on the tables after other people had finished. No one cleared them while we ate. There were a few kinds of bread, boiled eggs, yoghurt, fresh vegetables and cold cuts. The cheese sat on the same platter as the meat and picked up its smell. Cut melon was left out with fruit flies on it. No one ever asked how our stay was or whether everything was okay. There was no hospitality. If they renovated and dealt with these problems, I’m sure the hotel could be okay. But at around €100 a night, it wasn’t worth it at all.
