The staff were charming and especially flexible with our dog, and there’s parking right in front. The bed was good and breakfast had that typical Austrian feel. It’s a very nice hotel in the heart of Grossarl. Since the hotel was full, dinner could get crowded, so booking a table is a good idea. The church bells woke us at 6 every morning, which wasn’t pleasant, though it’s a village and I suppose that comes with the setting. I’d forgotten about that.

We came for our honeymoon and felt at ease right away. They left champagne in the room to welcome us and gave us the larger room. The location is beautiful, with stylish design and clean rooms. Robes, slippers and towels were provided for the wellness area. Staff were fantastic and helped with all our questions and requests. Breakfast was great, and we also enjoyed dinner at the restaurant.

At reception, they gave us useful advice about things to do and let us know an alpine lodge was closed. Without that heads-up, we might have arrived there after our hike to find the doors shut. The staff were particularly friendly, and we were completely happy with our last-minute choice of Berg-Leben. The hotel is central, with modern, spacious rooms, and the ski bus stops right outside. At Christmas, the lovely Advent market is right on the doorstep. Breakfast was a fabulous treat. We had a lovely winter stay in Grossarl. We visit the valley in summer as well as winter and love it.

I booked in October 2023, then had to change my travel plans and canceled within that same month. I assumed the merchant was honest and had returned the deposit of over €1,200 to my credit card. I only noticed it was still missing in April 2024 while preparing my taxes. I emailed and called repeatedly, and Maria kept saying she would look into it, but I never got a reply by email or phone. I had to keep calling for several weeks. On 30 May, the deposit finally came back, minus €200 in “processing fees.” What a joke. If I hadn’t caught the missing refund, they would have simply kept the money. So dishonest!
