Tauernchalets

The owner was great to chat with about the area and its history, and we were very comfortable during our ski week with nine people. The chalets are about 150 meters from the slopes, as the owner describes, which makes ski-in/ski-out access quite convenient. Ours was very clean and fully equipped, with an inviting covered sun terrace. We only used the chalet sauna now and then, but it was clean and tidy.

The view from the balcony was a real treat, both over the beautifully lit town in the evening and toward the mountains at breakfast. We stayed in the chalet in late July 2023 for hiking, and it was very clean and well kept, with comfortable beds and everything we needed. There’s parking right by the house, and it’s not far to the Panoramaseilbahn or the shops in town. We brought our large dog and had no trouble at all. The hosts are friendly and happy to answer questions. As a smoker, I was glad smoking was allowed on the balcony. All in all, a beautiful week.

The Tauernchalets have a fantastic setting, with a lovely view over Großarl and the mountains. The house is well equipped, with a small sauna, a boot room with ski boot warmers, and a wood stove in the living area. We stayed four nights in January 2023. We had booked for eight people at a cost of over €2,400, but two more joined us, bringing the total to ten across four bedrooms. I expected a modest charge for extra linens and towels, but instead we were billed €90 per person per night, an additional €720. The two extra guests had to use a bunk bed in a triple room. It felt like a complete rip-off. The local tourist tax was charged on top, though I had expected it to be included, and the two dogs cost €18 per night each rather than the €15 shown on the booking platform. It left a very bitter taste, and unfortunately I can’t recommend Tauernchalets.

The owner was incredibly friendly and helpful. The chalets are easy to reach by car, or on foot and skis, and they’re well equipped. Even a larger group can manage its own meals without a problem.
