MONDI Chalets am Grundlsee

The area around this place feels like a national treasure, and the facilities are wonderfully pampering. Such a beautiful, relaxing stay, absolutely worth it.

I paid a lot for this stay, so think twice before coming. The mattress was extremely hard, and after four nights my whole body hurt. The restaurant doesn't start serving food until 18:00. Before then there's only breakfast, with no other food available nearby on foot. The only store is a small self-service Unimarkt, about 20 minutes away, and you can only use a bank card. Yesterday its machine for alcoholic drinks was broken, so nobody could get beer or anything like that. To eat at the hotel restaurant you need a reservation, and getting a spot is down to luck. My room had a kitchen but no microwave or oven. Room cleaning, fresh sheets, and towels aren't included and have to be booked separately. The terrace and my room's balcony have no roof, so you can't even go out for a smoke when it's raining. The sauna doesn't open until 13:00, and the indoor pool is very small. The pool area is loud even when nobody's in it. They offer wellness facilities with saunas, but there's no cold or ice pool for after the sauna, just showers. Massages are available, but only one outside person comes in to do them, so there aren't many slots and you have to be lucky to get one. The wellness area bathrooms were dirty, with feces all over.

We stayed two nights in a lake view apartment and hope to come back for a longer visit. The resort has an old-time charm, with spacious, comfortable rooms, and a great spa with a pool and treatments. It's one of the most peaceful, picturesque places to stay around Hallstatt.

Don't stay here. The pictures suggest lovely lake views, but most rooms actually look onto the wall of a neighboring building. I paid a really high price, then learned on arrival that a lake view costs 20% extra, and only a few rooms have one. The room was worn down, maybe it was good years ago, but in its current state it isn't worth the price. There was no AC, and even in early March the room got really hot. The pictures are deceptive and this place is overpriced.
