What spoiled our holiday was the unfriendly treatment, especially the rule that even a family of three couldn’t stop by for one afternoon coffee in the apartment we had rented. It was just an hour, with no evening or nighttime visit and no repeated drop-ins. We could put up with the dated furnishings, and even watering the balcony flowers ourselves wasn’t a real issue. But it’s a shame that after 30 years, the landlady’s attitude seems just as unchanged as the furniture.
