Marten

It's a quaint hotel, a short drive from the centers of Saalbach and Hinterglemm. That suited us well because a big mountain bike festival was happening in Hinterglemm during our stay, and it was nice to get away from it. Our room was spacious and lovely, and very quiet, which we appreciated after staying in noisy places before arriving. At check-in, we asked about quieter rooms and the receptionist kindly moved us. She didn't mention that the rate would be different, though. At checkout, the receptionist met us partway on the price, which we appreciated. The hotel should be clearer about changes like that next time. There was a good breakfast selection, but on our second morning the flies in the dining area were unbearable. They should consider putting out fly traps or something.

We stayed for seven days in late July 2022, three people in the Junior suite, booked directly through Marten.at. We picked the hotel because pets were allowed and it had a pool. Before we arrived, the hotel checked in to make sure everything was arranged and offered to book bikes and other activities. Claudia, the receptionist, greeted us and spoke fluent English. She explained the joker card benefits, which are a must, since it gives free access to all the open lifts in the area. Our room was beautiful and clean, with a balcony looking over the valley. The pool and spa include a sauna and steam room. Half board came with a delicious breakfast buffet and fresh omelettes made by the chef. For dinner, we could choose from three dishes, mixing traditional Austrian food with more modern options. Don't miss the local cheeses. The hotel also has a playground with a basketball court, swings, and a slack line. Juliane, the hostess, offers weekly breakfast hikes in summer, weather permitting, to their Alm 1350 location. It's about a 50-minute uphill walk, and well worth doing.

It’s a small family hotel where staff know who you are, so you don’t feel like just one guest among many. Everyone was friendly and made an effort to ensure we had a pleasant stay. The valley and mountain views from the rooms and dining hall are beautiful. After a long day outdoors, the small outdoor pool and spa with a sauna and steam bath feel great. Massages are available, though it’s better to book ahead. There’s also a nice outdoor playground for children.

The dinners were excellent and breakfast was good. The wellness center shuts far too early, though. It should stay open until 9.
