Hotel Central

What made the stay for us was how helpful and kind the staff were. On arrival, the reception team patiently answered questions and even helped us find iced coffee in winter, checking options, getting out a map, and drawing routes. Café Central, which is attached to the hotel, had the best coffee I drank on our trip. We left a small bag at reception by accident during a stay of a few nights, then a break elsewhere, before coming back for one last night before our flight. I contacted the hotel through Booking, and they immediately said it was no problem. When we returned days later, they recognized us and gave it back without any fuss. We also got an unexpected suite upgrade on that final night. The hotel has an old-fashioned charm, creaky floors on the upper levels included, which we enjoyed, and the bathrooms were renovated and comfortable. We felt very welcome and would happily return.

The central location is great, just as the name suggests 😁. Staff were really friendly and helpful, and the attached cafe had delicious desserts. Not every room has tea-making facilities, but they brought us a kettle when we asked.

Breakfast was a highlight, with a good range of food. They kept bringing out fresh hot dishes and baked goods even near the end, so there weren't empty trays or leftovers to fight over. The location is right in the city center and extremely convenient. I had read about the clock noise and older rooms, so I emailed in advance to ask for a modern room away from the clock. They replied quickly and honored the request. The room was spacious and clean, though quite hot. They provided a fan, and opening the window helped, so it was manageable. My main frustration was check-in and luggage storage. I arrived in the morning, and although I didn't expect to get into the room early, I did expect to check in and leave my bags. The receptionist refused to check me in and told me to put my luggage in the room myself. That room is beside the main entrance, unlocked and unsupervised, with a sign saying luggage is stored at your own risk. Anyone could take something, and the hotel accepts no responsibility. For a four-star hotel at this price, that felt unacceptable. I paid extra for an outside luggage storage facility, which was frustrating and unnecessary. Service was otherwise fine, and the email response and breakfast were great, but the luggage policy needs serious improvement. That's why I rate the stay four stars.

The sauna was perfect, though the fitness center could use some upgrades. Rooms were very comfortable and the breakfast buffet was good. The hotel is lovely, with friendly staff and beautiful views. It's just beside the old town, on a quiet little street, while the lively town center is only three minutes away. A great spot if you want to unwind and enjoy the mountains.
