I liked the chalet so much that I returned after climbing the Grossglockner. The breakfast was magnificent and plentiful, all set out by the time I came downstairs. Steffi gave me a super friendly welcome and showed me up to my room. The room and bed were great, with a lovely view over the countryside and the sound of the nearby rushing creek.

We loved ending the day on the balcony, looking over the valley and listening to the babbling brook. Steffi’s chalet has lovingly furnished rooms that want for nothing, with a warm, authentic feel and great hospitality. With only a few rooms, it feels intimate and makes it easy to switch off from everyday life. Kals is already laid-back, and the quieter months are especially relaxing. Restaurants are within walking distance, and there are so many hiking trails it’s hard to choose. Steffi knows the mountains and is happy to share great tips. There’s parking right outside and a wine bar for tastings. We’d happily come back again and again.

I enjoyed reading my newspaper on the terrace, with views of the beautiful nature park and mountains. Service and breakfast were great, and the cable car to the summit is within walking distance. There are plenty of mountain hikes you can do from Kals.
