Hotel Böhlerstern

The food was superb, and the staff were very friendly. The rooms are basic but clean and have what you need. The house is quite old and has a special atmosphere, which you’ll either like or hate. It’s not a typical tourist destination, but it’s well worth a visit.

I was here for one business night. The staff were very helpful and everything was very clean. Dinner was tasty, and breakfast was very good too. You could ask the waitress to prepare eggs your way. We also had a late lunch from the smaller menu, and it was just as good as dinner.

The staff were friendly and helpful, but I didn’t rate the food that highly. It was too greasy for my taste, though it’s local cuisine, so I can’t really fault them for that. The bathrooms were really good, and the rooms were basic but clean. Sleeping wasn’t comfortable for me. The bed and pillow were uncomfortable, and there was only one pillow. The blinds let in daylight like light filters, so I woke up before 6am. There’s no way to make tea or coffee in the room, which felt strange. Stranger still, the dining room, breakfast room, and bar are all in one big room divided by simple partitions. Guests could smoke at the bar and tables, which was annoying for non-smokers and surely not good for the staff. All in all, I wouldn’t stay again and can’t recommend it.

The restaurant was closed for renovation, and there was no night service attendant. My business colleague got a room with a tiny single bed, and I was embarrassed that I’d recommended the hotel. My own mattress was cheap and uncomfortable, and the pillows were thin. The room had uninteresting books for sale at a high price. The internet was very weak and kept disconnecting. The shower was weak too, took ages to heat up, and had an old, plugged shower head. The bathroom was out of Kleenex. I’d already booked a second stay for three months later, but there was no way to cancel without losing an entire night. It felt like a 3rd world bait and switch trick.
