Hotel Sonnenhof

The infrared sauna was spotless and very well looked after, and the ski bus stop is right outside. You can almost count on getting a seat. Breakfast was varied and ready every morning, with cappuccino, eggs, breads, fruit, vegetables, cold cuts, spreads, different kinds of muesli, and plenty more. We spent a week skiing in the Kaunertal Valley, and this worked perfectly for us. It's a cozy, rustic family-run place, not a 5-star hotel, but you can feel the family's warmth and passion. They were welcoming and helpful, making sure we had what we needed. We really had nothing to complain about. Thanks for a wonderful week.

We spent two weeks of summer vacation at Sonnenhof in the Kaunertal and would strongly recommend it. The owners were very friendly, welcomed us warmly, offered lots of tips, and treated us to cake a few times. The apartment was roomy, looked fairly new, and was exceptionally clean and tidy. It was the most fully equipped apartment we've ever had: a fridge with freezer compartment, oven, microwave, kettle, coffee machine, toaster, and soda maker. There were even hand soap, dish soap, towels, and more. We also had two bathrooms and two toilets. Kaunertal is a beautiful place to stay, and after a short drive you're among the hiking areas of SFL and Fendels.

The room was spacious and had a balcony, and it was perfectly adequate for a night. The owners were very friendly and shared useful excursion tips. Still, the room felt quite worn, the bathroom was cramped, and the hotel was dated. Breakfast wasn't recommended: we had coffee and tea on the first day, but the rolls weren't fresh, there was little choice, and the quality was poor. Some items may even have been expired.

The price doesn't match what you get, which is a shame because Sonnenhof would otherwise be a great base for hikes in and around the Kaunertal valley. Breakfast was good, but cleanliness there left a lot to be desired. The place looked nothing like the website. It was very dated, which wouldn't have bothered me if it had been clean. The entrance and reception felt uninviting and dirty, and unfortunately the rooms were the same.
